Ashtakam
[poem in 8 stanzas]
C H O R U S
bhaja meeracita ghiridhari padam
I am at the Lotus feet of Krishna Giridhari
who once was worshipped by Mirabai
1
who is diffusing the ambrosia of His enchanting gentle smile
whose Lotus eyes are intoxicated with Love
who attracts the heart of Vraja damsels by the sound of His flute
2
whose forehead is beautified by a lump [lok] of curly hair
whose yellow garments are more resplendent than gold
whose bodily hue is like the fresh monsoon cloud
3
who gives pleasure to the damsels on the banks of Yamuna river
feels ecstatic by relishing the nectar from the lips of Srimati Radhika
busy in amorous pastimes in the groves of her father, King Vrishabanu
4
who is dressed as a crest-jewel among dancers
whose beauty decries the beauty of millions of cupids combined
and acts like the flower arrows for the young damsels of Vraja
5
causes agitation in the minds of Gopi’s by the play of His flute
performs pastimes which expand the bliss of Love of His associates
whose Love makes the Yamuna water stand still and melts the stones
6
whose beautiful form captivates both human beings and devas
whose earrings studded with gems hang on His beautiful cheeks
most expert in giving protection to those who have taken His shelter
7
He has various names such as Giridhari, Murari, Bakari...
anyone who chants these names mentally or orally becomes freed
from the disease caused by the influence of Kali-Yuga
8
whose Lotus Heart is captivated by Swami Vishwananda
who happily wanders in various countries of the world
while destroying the sins of the people
who come to have His darshan
