in Skopje, at a time when the city was under the Ottoman Empire.

 

In an Albanian-Roman Catholic family...

as the third child of the Bojaxhiu family, alongside her sister Aga (1904) and brother Lazar (1907). It is believed that her father Nikollë - a well to do businessman and Albanian rights activist - was a member of the Vlach community. It was characteristic of her family that there were many mixed marriages.

At that time, Skopje was a developed trade center, a multi-cultural and multi-religious environment. She had learned to communicate with everyone, from those who are different in language, culture, religion, and worldview. 

That's why she had a lot of photos in Roma costumes, because she had direct contacts with her Roma surroundings and Roma families who especially loved them.
