When the news of the death of the Puzin martyrs... 

spread through the village and the entire Ardat district... 

the head of the penal detachment informed the provincial military commissar in Nizhny Novgorod: "Women Avdotya Sheikova, Daria Timagina, Maria (surname unknown) and Daria, the house has been dismantled and transported to heat the school, and other properties were sent to Ardatov."

The villagers were also punished immediately after the murder.

Three terrible fires swept through the village, and Strakhova Puza burned to the ground. The houses burned not only of those who voted for the execution of the martyrs, but also of those who treated them well.

In those terrible, bloody years, deviating from the Faith and the Law of God, everyone was clearly guilty: some murdered, others condoned [door de vingers zien] the murder, still others did not intervene and resist  the evil...
