Here in Figueira, one of our first actions, was to establish the hives, on of the first. And we find this to be the most important, right. It is in our souls, in the essence of Figueira, as here many tasks have began, ended, changed, finished, the hives have been here since the beginning. And they are maintained with the same care, and with the same process of perfection.  In this way, that is very important.

Paulo Antonio:

Currently, we have about 50 families housed in the Apiaries of Figueira. Installed in rational hives, which are those boxes [bijenkast] where installed in rational hives where beekeepers place the collected families.

Imagine that the planet is a hive. The hive has a centre, a core, which symbolically is in the queen. The queen, she symbolizes where the soul anchors in the hive. The queen is not the one in charge. The queen is... let us say... she is the one who obeys the most inside.

Each bee... it is not just one specific cell... In fact, each bee is a ton of cells. So the nervous system is part of everything. So they are all thinking at the same time. So there lies a hive's spirit. If the Earth followed the instruction manual that came with the bees when they arrived here, can you imagine how we would be today?

If you see an original hive, there lies an example 

of life in collectivity like none other on Earth. 

So it came from another planet, the prototype of life in collectivity. 

And the bees came to teach us this.

Paulo Antonio:

Bees are not individuals. Each bee, they are not like us, they are a homogenuous whole. So there are no conflicts between them, they have a unique body...

Maria Rita:

Individual, because each one has a task, and even the task caracterises them as an individual. Whether one is the cleaner of the hive, or one is the one who looks after the queen, or one is who feeds the larvae, or whether one is who goes to the field to get the food or not... Inside they are known, an individual like this, even an individual there, it is really a group. Because it is never the only one that does a task [nooit wordt een taak alleen gedaan]. The only time that a bee does a task alone, is when the bee is born, cleans its own nest, removes the lid [het deksel] and cleans its won nest. It is the only time a bee does a task alone. 

When we approach the hive, each one has an aroma. And that aroma is always wanting to express something... Technically, or in subtle terms, there is no competition, for example the one who is a cleaner speaks 'Ahhh, I so wanted to feed the queen!'... The bee has an awareness of what it should do and when. She knows at each stage of its life what it will do.

Paulo Antonio:

So if the Earth were a beehive, we would be at a higher point, because there is this whole collaboration, and each individual would understand oneself as like a cell of a super-organism, which is the name scientists gave: super-organism.

Maria Rita:

And it is by making an interaction, right? Because they are not just an organism that survives there alone amongst themselves.

Paulo Antonio:

Bees they produce in excess when they interact with humans. We allow, we give a structure, and they produce in excess. In nature they already controll themselves a little more...

Maria Rita:

Several times we have detected that the flora was very dry... very scarce. We had a reserve of their own honey, and we returned it. And when we went back, we got there and the honey was hardened, and they would not touch it. And then we learned, that they too, if they do not need it, you can put any amount there, they will not touch it. Inside a hive there is no waste. That is another thing I learned.

Paulo Antonio:

That is right, it is all precise... The treatment with the bees make us fearless, we lose fears. In hives you also have this. You open the hives and sometimes it has a confusing appearance. At a certain moment. But everything is organized. And the bees, they have a process where they open our consciousnesses. Because it is a process, I will use an organic term, if you work with bees, bees work with you. You transform yourself, you work with the bees again, things incorporate in us, this process continues on developing, you then create an opening for things, a clarity.
