amábile 2

In 1888, 23 years old...

Amabile had the first of three dreams about the Virgin Mary.

In those dreams, Our Lady said to Amabile: 'Amábile, it is my ardent desire that you begin a work: you will work for the salvation of my daughters.' Amabile replied: 'But how can I do that, my Mother? I have no means, I am so miserable, ignorant…'

When she awoke, after the third dream, Amabile replied in prayer: 'Serve you My dear Mother, I am a poor creature, but to satisfy your desire, I promise to try my best. I can!'

Amábile asked...

and her father helped her build a small wooden house...

on land near the chapel, donated by a baron.

The hovel [krot] would become a small hospital where Amábile and Virginia worked hard to care for the sick, but also to care for and educate children. The two didn't even know it, but the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Conception was being born there.

The first sick person...

that Amábile and Virgínia received at the small hospital...

was a woman who had cancer, in a terminal state.

The poor woman had no one to take care of her.

So the two took on the woman in the hovel.

It was July 12, 1890. Later, Amábile and Virginia considered this date as the founding day of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. The Work began the day the two friends began to work as nurses.

It was the first female congregation founded in Brazil.

Due to the sanctity and necessity of this Work, it was quickly approved by the Bishop of Curitiba, in August 1895. Four months after the ecclesiastical approval, Amábile, Virgínia and another young woman named Teresa Maule, took their religious vows in the Congregation.

On that occasion, Amábile adopted the name of Sister Paulina of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus.

In addition, she was appointed superior of the small congregation.

Therefore, she came to be called Mother Paulina.
