Q: In Surah Ar-Rahman [55:3] , Allah (SWT) taught man bayan, how does He intend us to use it?

A: We don’t have that ability to speak...

I don’t want to get into Tafsir, but that ayat is specifically talking about the Holy Prophet (AS), it’s not teaching about man speaking. Because everything speaks, everything speaks, right? Now scientists are discovering even trees they speak to each other. What more are they going to discover?

They are going to discover that so-called inanimate objects also can speak and communicate with each other, everything speaks... So what is this speech, that Allah (SWT) is talking about?

“And He taught man how to talk, He taught man speech.” [55:3]

What speech?

What is 'bayan'?

Bayan is specific, no?

There are other words in Arabic that He could use, but He used 'bayan'. Bayan was sohbet, zikr. Same thing when He said iqra, 'read!'... He didn’t stop there...

And in that ayat, in that surah, what is that bayan, what is that speech? What is that ayat, what is that speech that Allah (SWT) is repeating over and over again in Surat-ul-Rahman?...

“Whichever of the favors of your Lord can you deny” !

-

The Prophet (AS), one of his names is Shakir...

Sayyidina Shakir...

The one who is always giving thanks.

Never complaining.

The bayan, 'whichever of the favors of your Lord can you deny?'...

The man who is following in the footsteps of the Prophet (AS) and the AhlulBayt...

they will look at every opportunity to find the favor of their Lord.

-

What is our Sheykh saying, what is Allah asking from us?

Nothing.

Except to give thanks.

To give shukur.

Not when you have things, when you don’t have things, not when you have health, when you have disease. To give shukur in every situation.

Not to ask for tests, but to give shukur.

To be happy.

To give shukur is to be happy.

-

If there’s a little kidm and the little kid just says, ‘thank you mama!’, you get so happy, it doesn’t matter if it’s this or that, just to hear the kid saying thank you, you get so happy. Especially kids, they just take, take, take. Right?

And when they actually say 'thank you', you feel so nice. What do you want to do? You want to give more! And Allah in that whole surah is talking: from the highest to the lowest, you’re going to find your Lord. So now we must look for our Lord and our Lords favor.

-

What is our Lords favor?

What is His biggest favor to us?

Well, the biggest favor is the Prophet (AS)...

and then for us, where we are, the biggest favor is to have the Inheritor.

What does the Inheritor of the Prophet do?

He gives bayan!

He gives sohbet!

Yes?

May Allah make us to be in their circle, insya'Allah, never to lift their feet from our necks. And to always look for the favors of our Lord with those eyes, and to be happy.

May Allah forgive me and bless you.

Al Fatiha.

Amin.
