and an immense throng [menigte] crowded around his remains and sought to secure some relic of the saint. Many miracles were wrought in Belgium and in Rome, and crowned heads petitioned for his beatification.
Pius IX published the decree on May 3, 1865. On the eleventh, his relics were solemnly translated to their present resting place beneath the altar of our Lady in the Church of the Roman College, opposite the splendid shrine of St. Aloysius.
On January 15, 1888, Leo XIII, amid the festivities of his Sacerdotal Jubilee, solemnly canonized the Belgian student.
