Sadly, her business manager swindled her... 

and the enterprise collapsed. 

Many tried to discredit Pauline. 

Financially and socially ruined... 

Pauline remained strong in her faith... 

until she died peacefully...

Ce n’était pas un ange habituel. Dieu avait posté auprès d’elle un des sept Séraphins, comme on le fait une fois à chaque génération. C’est que Lucifer lui-même avait réclamé son âme. Lors d’un conseil céleste, il s’était levé en criant: ´J’exige un pouvoir plus grand sur Germaine. Je ne peux me contenter des blessures de son corps ou des abandons de sa famille. Aussi, depuis un an, Germaine s’épuisait [was uitgeput], d’âme et de corps. Elle ne ressentait plus la présence de Dieu. Elle assistait à la messe comme une pierre. 

Et c’est vrai que, habituellement et dans ces circonstances, les pauvres âmes s’abandonnaient au péché, cherchant dans les créatures cette affection dont on a tant besoin. 

Mais Germaine restait simplement fidèle, récitant vaillamment [dapper] son chapelet et l’offrant pour les âmes des autres. Partout, dans le village, les filles de son âge étaient mariées et mères. Elle était seule.

After her stay in Jerusalem... 

Mariam returned to Jaffa, to go from there to Saint Jean d`Acre [Akko]... 

however the boat she was travelling with was forced by inclement weather... 

to change direction and to port in Beirut. 

Feeling it was perhaps the will of God... 

she once again took up an occupation as a household servant.

Two exceptional facts stand out during this period. 

She had been working for scarcely six months, when suddenly she was struck with total blindness. This lasted for forty days. 

Once again Mariam turned to the Blessed Virgin, "See, my Mother," she said, "all the trouble that I am causing in this house, I was not even better cared for by my parents. Oh, if it would please you and your Divine Son, give me back my sight!" 

Immediately something fell from her eyes and they opened... 

and she could then once again see.

A couple of months after that... 

she suffered a tragic fall when she was hanging clothes on the terrace. 

At first the family whom she was working for thought she was dead. Her bones seemed to be badly broken and crushed, and the doctors gave no hope of recovery. 

Her employers cared for her as for their own child. 

-

A month later...

in front of her little night lamp that she kept burning before a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she saw - as did Therese of the Child Jesus later on - the Blessed Virgin smile at her, recommending three things to her, obedience, charity and confidence. A perfume and light filled the room. 

Mariam was cured, and she immediately became hungry. The family and neighbours came flocking in, and at the sight of the prodigy everyone, both Christian and Muslim, went down on their knees, giving thanks and proclaiming God`s miracle through the Virgin Mary.

These facts were later confirmed in a letter in 1869, when the prioress of the Carmel of Pau where Mariam was then a sister, wrote to Sister Gélas, the superior of the Daughters of Charity of Beirut, asking her to verify the accuracy of these facts, and the superior confirmed that the events had happened exactly as stated, and even added some further details.

At age eighteen... 

circumstances led her to leave Lebanon for Marseille, France at the beginning of May, 1863. 

There she became a cook for an Arab woman named Madame Naggiar. 

Each morning Mariam usually went either to the church of St. Charles or to the church of St. Nicholas, the latter being of the Greek Catholic rite, which was her rite. 

In this church she once again enjoyed the sumptuous ceremonies of the confessor she chose, Father Philip Abdou, the rector of the church, a Lebanese.

During one of her first communions there, she was rapt in a wonderful ecstasy. 

Her mistress, when informed of it, came for her in her carriage. 

The phenomenon lasted for four days, and the doctors did not know what to make of it. 

Mariam acknowledged later that she had gone through heaven, hell and purgatory. While in ecstasy, she received the order to fast for one year on bread and water, to expiate the sins of gluttony in the world. And to wear poor clothing, to expiate the sins of immodesty and luxury.

As a Mirror of Light... 

I come today from Sirius... 

to bring you the message of Love of the stars, fruitful and divine stars that have been witnesses of the events of the sidereal universe. In these stars, My children, lies the history of your existence, the Origin of your origins, the Truth that is still hidden and will be revealed at the end of these times.

On this day, I want you to elevate your consciousness toward these sublime spaces, so that the reality and the situation of the surface of the Earth may be transformed and redeemed. In this way, your souls and your consciousnesses will widely participate in the internal commands of the cosmos. Your consciousnesses will open and be able to receive the Sacred Knowledge that will continue transforming everyone.

From Sirius, a message of hope is sent to the world. I am the Governess of the Mirrors, I am the Universal Mother, and I bring to My children, in this cycle, all the attributes and gifts that they need, in order to be able to keep moving forward, although the situation of humanity is ever more critical and difficult.

I encourage you, My children, to place your consciousness in the Heights because from above will come the help you need. From there will always arise the most pure sources of renewal and healing, of transcendence, and mainly of forgiveness.

I invite you, My children, to elevate your consciousness to the constellation of Sirius so that, from there, your souls and spirits on this day may receive the impulses of this sacred and blessed place. Thus, in this universe, there are other such important and blessed places that guard the history of all the existence of your race and of others.

Dear children, I invite you to awaken the spirit of brotherhood in this time. 

So that this may be possible upon the surface of the Earth, and so that the Third Order of the Brotherhood may arise, it is necessary for you to live in fraternity and unconditional service, even in the smallest details. If this does not happen, My children, in this time the currents of the universe that want to come to assist humanity will not be able to.

Representatives of this human race on the surface of the Earth must be mirrors that can reflect what the universe will send to you as an impulse and as help. For this, your redemption must be ever more conscious, profound and true, without losing time in each opportunity that the universe places before you to be able to learn and also evolve.

From Sirius, an impulse of ascension arrives, the ascension of consciousness, but also of your material life, so that each action, each movement may be sublime and correspond to the movement of the Universal Laws, which a great part of humanity does not fulfill, which is the reason why it suffers and endures.

My children, this chaos must be transmuted into another form, elevating your consciousnesses towards the universe, so that the immaterial Source may send you the help everyone urgently needs.

Sirius needs to build within in you the pillars of a New Humanity. Opening My hands and expanding the Light of My Immaculate Heart, I pour out, through the Rays of Light, the attributes and principles of Sirius that humanity needs in order to carry out the great change in consciousness.

It is up to Sirius, as a constellation within this material universe, to give the last impulse so that humanity can be redeemed. My Son has entrusted such a sacred star as this one to fulfill this task at the end of these times.

Sirius is preparing to carry forward this mission and to have all possible consciousnesses participate through your awakening. If humanity does not change its attitude and its ways, how will change come? How will the great turn of the human consciousness take place toward its process of redemption and Christification?

My children, may your consciousnesses open even more to receive the impulses of the universe, so that these impulses, which are not personal but rather of a group nature, may expand internally to the world.

Deeply moved by this whole experience... 

and perhaps still suffering from the loss of Kathleen Newton... 

Tissot dedicated almost the entirety of his remaining life to creating subjects of a Christian nature. 

Starting only with the intention to depict a few scenes from the Gospels, he ventured to Egypt and Palestine for the first time, and lived as a pilgrim for many months. He hoped to experience the events of the Scriptures in their native setting, and to capture a lost vision of the Holy Land. 

Soon enough, Tissot would decide to expand his project, return a second time, and paint the entirety of the Gospel narrative as a single, cohesive story.

As Tissot suddenly disappeared from his refined and artistic circles... 

rumors began to abound. 

Many speculated that Tissot had left the city to live out a religious life in a monastery. 

Others believed that his sudden conversion and absence were merely part of a sensational act, capitalizing upon and profiting off of the Catholic revival movement emerging in France at the time. 

Even long-time friend Edgar Degas turned his back on Tissot, so much so that their friendship would never be repaired. He is quoted as saying, "Now he's got religion. He says he experiences inconceivable joy in his faith. At the same time, he not only sells his own products high, but sells his friends' pictures as well... Well, I can take my vengeance. I shall do a caricature of Tissot with Christ behind him, whipping him, and call it: Christ Driving His Merchant from the Temple!"  

Far away from the rumors, however... 

Tissot marched toward Jerusalem, accompanied by no European friends.

Only local guides, interpreters, and assistants to aid him.

Sixth Day of the Novena

When I was called to go to Bethlehem with the Most Holy Mary... 

She being so fragile and close to giving birth to the Child... 

I found Myself facing another test of faith. I knew that the Prophesies were beginning to be fulfilled, and that the Son of God would come to the world, just as in the Sacred Scriptures. But My mind and My Heart were being tested, and harassed [bestookt] in each instant of this mission. I had to inwardly bear with all the discouragement of the enemy of God and keep the faith, above and beyond its false strength.

The journey was long, and in spite of the Virgin Mary being assisted by the angels and the archangels, She was tired, for She also had to bear with the harassments of the enemy. The Son of God was about to arrive and both the Light and the darkness had their eyes upon Us.

Arriving in Bethlehem...

I wanted to find the best place for the Child and His Holy Mother... 

but all that We received, was humiliation and successive disdain [minachting]. We prayed to God for His guidance, until We were led to the caves of Bethlehem. After so many tests, I understood that God had not abandoned Us with His Son, but rather that He, in His Divine Thought, did not have My human idea of what was best for the Child. 

The Father wanted His Son, from the beginning, to demonstrate His Humility to the world. And it was among the poor, and among the most humble and servile of the animals, that the Son of Man came to be born.

Sometimes, children, we need to be tested, humiliated and even disdained... 

to purify our human will...

and discover that God has not abandoned us...

but rather, He had been waiting for us in the inner precinct [omgrensd gebied], where our heart is able to live humility. So, when you feel lost, tested, humiliated and alone, pray to the Father in My Name and, with My intercession, I will help you to find the place of inner humility where God awaits you:

Lord,

like the Most Chaste Saint Joseph,

test me, so that my faith may be fortified.

Purify me, so that I may set aside the old human.

And teach me to let myself be humiliated,

so that I may discover

that, in humility, You wait

to reveal Your Heart

to me.

This is a teaching...

that from whatever difficulty you have...

there must be a salawat - a praising upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ to relieve that mushkilat, that difficulty. So if you still have difficulty, then you haven't got there yet.  

Means that there's an inspiration from Allah (AJ) that every time there's a difficulty in our life, Allah (AJ) wants us to reach towards its medicine and towards its relief. And awliyaullah, saints, come into our life and give us the most perfected relief, is to build your relationship with Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.

And the most beautific way to build that relationship, is the nasheeds, the Songs of Praise. If you're Arab you can recite the Arabic, if you like. You don't know Arabic you can recite the Arabic in English, in  Farsi, in Urdu, Allah (AJ) has as many ways as the breath to reach to Divinely Presence... 

But the main thing is to reach... 

by praising upon Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ... 

in these beautific kalaam, words, of awliya.

When you’re running to an attorney to fix your issue... 

and you think the attorney’s going to fix your issue... 

and then Allah (AJ) enrols you in the schools of tazkiyah, the schools of purification. He wants faith,  not faith in a lawyer or outside person, but faith in your belief. If you had that level of belief, and you ran to the awrads [daily practices] you ran to the zikrs, you ran to the salawats [praises upon Prophet ﷺ] you supported the mawlids, you supported the way and the propagation of the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ - however you think that would be represented, it's your faith. 

And then you realize. Because then Allah (AJ) will raise you in iman, in iman, in iman. At what point in your life you'll know with your iman that your position with Allah (AJ) your proximity your belief you understood at that time real tawheed is that nobody can solve my problem if Allah (AJ) doesn't solve it, there is no attorney I can run to, there's no doctor to give me a relief, there's nothing that will resolve if Allah’s (AJ) not signing.

Allah (AJ) wants to test me...

to bring out a reality.

Those whom are from Ahle taffakur (people of contemplation), they have to contemplate that “Ya musabbibal asbab,” that Allah (AJ) is the one who brings a condition. So brings an incident.

You have a fight with your spouse. The fight that comes out, and the beginning of all the reactions, we’ll call that the ‘Issue’, like the 36. The fight, that Allah (AJ) is the one who causes, he writes for a condition to happen. That a spark will come.

Then this is only about me. Not about the spouse, not about anyone else. Because I’m on a path to mý grave. I don’t need to know your station, your grave, I need to know mý grave.

So, when an issue happens in my life, and I divide that by mé, the resulting answer will come out of a characteristic. So, I take the fight, I divide it by me, and what came out, will be the result, and that’s why... - "Ya musabbibal asbab, ya mufattihul abwab", O Opener of doors! - ...Allah will open a door, if you understood what came out of you, as a result of that imtihan (test).

A condition happens in life...

a fight between spouses, between children, between employer...

it doesn’t really matter.

The fight, the situation was brought into my life, it came to me. As a result, what happened? I became angered, I began to say things from my mouth, I began to say all these issues from my mouth... Allah (AJ) wants thát.

What happened as a result of a test that came to you, from the equal [gelijkheidsteken] side, not the issue that we fought. No, cause Allah (AJ), He would make ány condition to happen.

Because 99.9% of the people are stuck on the íssue. That we fought because you talked in a bad way to me. But as soon as we started to fight, I started to use swear words, I cursed you, screamed at you, all the words I used at you, thát’s what Allah’s (AJ) concerned. Nót that you guys started to fight.

“Musabbibal asbab”... Of course Allah’s (AJ) going to ignite a situation, boom, hit it. Soon as it hít you, Allah (AJ) wants you to study the reaction. Your reward is in the reaction, and not the issue. But 99% of the people is now, ‘Why you said that to me? If you wouldn’t have talked like this to me, we wouldn’t have fought.’

I said, but you lost the focus! Allah’s (AJ) testing us. He wanted a situation in which we got angered. As a result, he wanted to see how do you reáct in this anger. Because the way of tazkiyah (purification) is not something simple.

When Allah (AJ) wants to bring something that’s hidden within me...

and I don’t even think it exists.

-

So, then the majority of people...

are stuck on the íssue.

‘Why you talk to me like that? Why you said like that to me?’ And there’s no growth, there’s no reality in that at all. That’s where all humanity will árgue, the íssue. ‘Why you did like that? No, it was your fault, you started like that. No, no you started like that.’

Tazkiyah comes and says, ‘No, no leave that whole thingI It doesn’t matter!’ This person in your life, the more loved, the more easier it is for Allah (AJ) to push your button. It can’t be the mailman. You don’t care what the mailman says. It’s your children, loved ones, mothers, parents, relatives, somebody whom is dear to you... is the one Allah’s (AJ) pushing the button. 

He hit, and a rocket goes.

So, then the tazkiyah comes...

And teaches, that when you got angry, and you said 1, 2, 3, 4 horrible things...

Allah (AJ) hold you to account that’s, that’s the issue, why you said these things like that?... Because when He makes a condition, and opens the door... - not only the door of paradise, but the door to your self - ...that these words you use when you fight, these things that we say when we fight and we angered, Allah (AJ) wants those to be cleaned. 

Allah (AJ) says, ‘These words that you úse, when you become angry, if your words were bad, imagine what’s in your heart is worse.' Because, maybe you say, ‘No, I was just angry with you, I didn’t mean to say that.’ But no, tariqah (spiritual path) comes and Allah (AJ) is inspiring within our heart, no, no as a matter of fact, Allah (AJ) says, ‘It’s far wórse!’

“Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, 
and what their hearts conceal is far worse. 
We have made plain to you the signs, 
if you have wisdom.” 

[Family of Imran, 3:118]

Whatever they said from their mouth, is nothing compared to what’s really in their heart. And every time they get angry, the sáme words keep coming out, ‘You’re like this, you’re like this, you’re like this.’ No coincidence you say those things! It’s what’s in your heart is far more greater disrespect and anger for that person.

So, it’s never the issue. That’s why all humanity is on the wróng part of this equation. If you want the secret of 36, you don’t just keep staring at 36! 36 divided by 9, brings a secret of 4. So, there’s a secret in that reality.

“Ya musabbibal asbab,” Allah (AJ) puts it “mufattihul abwab” is on the equations side. If you want the goal, you want the secret, you want the reality, it’s on the other side with the equation.

We got angered, got into a fight, and Allah (AJ) trained you, ‘Don’t say anything.’ What you start to repeat, what you begin to say, how you’re reacting, there’s the reward. It doesn’t matter what the person did, 'why you said like that?'... That’s not important. Because Állah’s (AJ) bringing that condition! 

And Allah (AJ) wants you to reach a point in which your reaction is not like that. Your reaction is just to remain silent. Hmm, okay, angered, because the person’s angry... But the words that you’re using, the phrases that you’re saying, the expressions that are coming out, Allah (AJ) showing the condition within the héart!

That you are on a path of tazkiyah, you are on a path of goodness, you are on a path of good characteristics, then why all these horrible things come out? ‘Oh! because the person bothered me.’ No, no, no, that’s not the way the tariqah looks at it.

Állah (AJ) wrote the plan, Allah (AJ) brought the condition.

He wants to bring oút a reward!

Are you álways going to fall back on all these bad issues, that are coming out from your heart, coming out from your mouth? Or do we take a path in which our life is to identify that. Once you identify, and say that I said, ‘You’re this, I said you’re rotten’...You’re with a friend, you may get into an argument, and you say some rotten things, ‘Yeah you think you’re like this, because you have this car, because you have like money, you have like this, like this’...

 Once you identified, ‘Okay, it’s not the issue for me to worry about, Allah’s (AJ) going to make me to argue with anybody he wants me to argue with.’

When I identify what I was saying, and I write that down, that’s called accounting, “muhasabah,” muhasabah. So, it means, when we are the people of tafakkur, we stop, we realize Allah’s (AJ) going to test us, every argument is going to bring out my contamination (besmetting, bederf).

When Allah (AJ) bothered Shaitan, He found he’s not making sujood (prostration), everything he did was from pride. One test from Allah (AJ), that ‘Bów down!’, he said, ‘No!’ It wasn’t the argument that was important, but his tafakkur should have said that, ‘I’m not going to bow down.’ Then Allah would have pointed out, ‘You know why you don’t bow down, it’s cause you’re jealous. He got a station you thought you were going to get.’

So, if we’re not identifying the right part of the formula, not the issue, why we got into argument, who cares why we got into argument, a dog could have been thrown in the argument. But the reaction that you had, the words that you used, if you write those... that becomes your muhasabah.

You write your reactions, you write the words that you use, when I fought this person, when I argued with this person. These words will show your character defect. Majority of people have jealousy. So, they use words that you can tell those are jealous words.

Enmity, they wish they had what you had. All of these characteristics will come out with this muhasabah and accounting. What words I use, I write that down.

Then I begin to meditate.

‘Why I said like this to this person?’

And Allah (AJ) inspire your heart these are words of jealousy. You’re jealous of this person. Maybe they achieve something you didn’t, maybe they are something in your eyes that you’re not. Whatever it is Allah (AJ) said, ‘That’s what’s important.’

...

We can’t change the condition.

‘Talk to me nicer when we get together. You’re always rude when you talk to me’...

That’s not what Allah (AJ) said.

Allah (AJ) said,

‘You change yourself, 
I will change the condition around you.’ 

“Indeed Allah will not change the condition of a people
until they change what is in themselves.” [The Thunder, 13:11]

Because the reverse is the same:

‘You’re not changing yourself, 
and I’m not changing your condition.’ 

Because you’re playing now, being stubborn with Allah (AJ), ‘I’m not gonna change.’ And Allah’s (AJ) saying, ‘I’m not changing your condition. As a matter of fact, I’m going to send 10 people to be rude to you, 10 people to talk bad to you, 10 people that insult you.’ Why you want something, maybe you didn’t identify, you have pride that you have all these characteristics.

So, then again in summary...

Állah (AJ) makes a condition to happen. I divide that by me, not the other person, not anyone else. Allah (AJ) wants to test me, what is that test about? What comes out of it? My words. These words, if I am true to myself and write them, contemplate on these words, you’ll find the characteristic.

Those faults and bad characteristics, if you address them and identify them, acknowledge your sickness by them, Allah (AJ) begin to change your condition. Because you realized yourself, ‘Ya Rabbi, I’m a jealous person, take this desire from my eyes. Don’t let me to be jealous of people.’

There’s a remedy for every sickness. When I have enmity, when I have anger, when I have pride, there are ways in which to work on that characteristic. We pray that Allah (AJ) dress us and bless us and give us a correct understanding.

So, 36 divided by 9...

brings out the secret of 4.

But who is teaching people today...

how to be thankful?

Who is giving the example today of how to be thankful?

Because the entire culture around is saying, don’t be thankful. Because thankfulness brings satisfaction to you. You must not be satisfied. You must say more, and more, and more. Who is teaching a man to sit down to learn how to be grateful to his Lord - whether he is given a rose or a thorn?

Only Allah’s Friends.

Those who have stood at the door of Thankfulness and have never moved, whether Allah gives the roses or whether He gives the thorns.

Because the Friends of Allah, they place duty above everything else.

This is the 'Shaan' of a man.

His responsibility.

His duty.

What benefit is there...

to saying “alhamdulillah” a thousand times without any meaning?

The real thankfulness is expressed not just through the tongue...

but through your hands, through your actions, through how you treat others, through the lifestyle that you are living, through the hardship that you are going through. When you don’t give thanks when you have it good, do you think you are going to give thanks when Allah is testing you?

Our Grandshaykh said...


“If twelve thousand real believers 
were to fight against seven kingdoms, 
they would win.”


Hadith also tells us that...


“It is impossible not to win, 
if twelve thousand of my nation 
will go against any army.”

The quantity isn’t important.

But the quality is.

In the army of Mahdi ﷺ , each man will be worth an army.

What will be their qualities?

“If you cut off their skins,” said our Shaykh, they would not change!”

The owner of Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him)...

placed him under a rock in the desert.

His only reply was, “Allah, Allah!”

If a person has real faith like that, in difficult situations Heavenly power will come to him. 

If there is no faith, he will die.

Our Grandshaykh told Mawlana...

that one day, he was at sea in a terrible storm.

Quickly, the little boat in which he was traveling began to fill with water. All the people began to panic, except our Grandshaykh and one other man. Our Grandshaykh asked that fellow, “Why aren’t you afraid?” “O Shaykh ‘Abdullah,” replied the man, “nothing is changing. We are in Allah’s hands!”

Soon, a big ship came.

And saved them all from the storm.

In this way...

Allah Almighty was testing and trying his servants.

When He sees that their lman is all right, He takes them out of danger. For this, a servant must develop ‘sakina’ [calm, tranquility] in the face of difficulties.

When Mahdi ﷺ comes...

twelve thousand soldiers from five countries in the West (known only to the Awliya) will come.

Those twelve thousand are always in contact with Divine powers, a sign of real faith. They are forever steadfast, never turning their faces from the Face of Allah Almighty, under any circumstances.

Armies turn to ashes under their gaze. They are descendants of Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). When Mahdi ﷺ says, “Allahu Akbar!” they will be ready at the south gate of Damascus, from Aman. Allah sets limits, and this one is soon to be suddenly finished. Each happening has its proper time. You may wake in the morning to a different world!

St.-David leefde met zijn monniken volgens een uiterst strenge regel.

De gehele dag werd gewijd aan zwaar werk, waarbij geen gebruik mocht worden gemaakt van lastdieren om het werk te verlichten. Er werd voortdurend gebeden, afwisselend hardop of in stilte. Tegen het einde van de middag keerde men naar het klooster terug voor de geestelijke lezing, het koorgebed en de maaltijd.

Die bestond uit brood en wortelen, met wat zout als enige kruiderij. Daarbij dronken zij met water verdunde melk. Na het avondmaal werden drie uren besteed aan contemplatief gebed, en dan volgde een korte nachtrust. De vroege ochtend begon met koorgebed, totdat het tijd was voor de handenarbeid.

Wie wilde intreden...

moest tien dagen buiten de poort blijven, en telkens opnieuw om toelating vragen, en intussen de hatelijkste baantjes opknappen onder een onvriendelijke bejegening. Wie tenslotte binnengelaten werd, moest tevoren afstand doen van al zijn bezittingen: het klooster mocht daarvan niets aannemen.

Zover het maar enigszins mogelijk was, hield David zich ver van alle materiële problemen. Wel nam hij deel aan de synode ter bestrijding van het pelagianisme, de leer die het belang van Gods genade kleineerde en die juist in de Britse landen telkens weer nieuwe aanhang vond. Dit deed hij echter eerst nadat de besprekingen min of meer waren vastgelopen, en hij met de meeste aandrang werd uitgenodigd om zijn getuigenis te komen afleggen.

Zijn levend woord, vanuit de diepte der contemplatie gesproken, oefende een beslissende invloed uit. Bij acclamatie werd hij toen tot primaat van de Cambrische kerk uitgeroepen...

Dit wordt in de legende poëtisch tot uitdrukking gebracht: er wordt in verteld dat een sneeuwwitte duif uit de hemel neerdaalde, en zich op zijn schouder nestelde, terwijl de aarde onder zijn voeten omhoogkwam, tot hij op een verhoging stond, en zijn stem als een bazuin over de gehele bijeenkomst schalde.

De heilige David verzette zich eerst sterk tegen deze verkiezing...

Maar tenslotte aanvaardde hij het ambt, onder voorwaarde dat hij de zetel vanuit de drukke stad Caerleon mocht overplaatsen naar het rustige Mynyw. Dit zou het bisdom tegelijk beschermen tegen de steeds verder naar het westen opdringende heidense Engelse stammen.

De beroemde koning Arthur gaf daarvoor zijn toestemming.

Ondanks zijn teruggetrokken leven...

toonde David zich in dit nieuwe ambt als een krachtig en hard werkend bestuurder. In 529 presideerde hij wat later genoemd werd ‘de overwinningssynode’, waar de laatste resten van het pelagianisme werden weggevaagd. Er werden canons en regels opgesteld voor het bestuur van de Britse kerk.

In zijn bisdom Cambria maakte de kerk een grote bloeitijd door: het geestelijk leven verdiepte zich en alom verrezen kloosters, terwijl onder de leken broederschappen ontstonden die met vurige godsvrucht de heilige Mysteriën vierden. En allen zagen in David hun werkelijke vader, het levende voorbeeld ter navolging, zo geheel in overeenstemming met zijn meeslepend woord.

De kroniek van zijn dagen somt op:

‘Hij was de levende leer voor zijn toehoorders, een gids voor de geestelijken, een licht voor de armen, een steun voor de wezen, een beschermer der weduwen, een vader voor de wezen, een regel voor de monniken, en een weg voor de leken; in één woord: iemand die alle soorten mensen wist te brengen tot God’...

Hij stierf op bijna honderdjarige leeftijd, in 544.

Een onnoemlijk aantal legenden is gehecht aan zijn naam, die getuigen van de grote invloed die van hem is uitgegaan, en van de overweldigende kracht van zijn tegelijk zo lieflijke persoonlijkheid.

Paul continued to wait for solemn vows.

When a Portuguese priest, Don Joseph Carboni, invited Mother M. Crucified to establish a community devoted to the Passion in a convent he was building in Rome, she thought it was time to move. Paul warned against such an action.  Eventually Don Carboni's request fell through.

At this time, her younger brother was killed by robbers in the family home.  Her two brothers, Dominic and Canon Nicholas, decided to build a convent in the memory of their slain brother.  But when the family became involved in the writing of the rule for "their" convent, Paul washed his hands of the whole affair.

Solemn vows were denied Paul in 1760 by Pope Clement XIII.   Paul's community would never become an Order with a female branch.  If the convent of nuns devoted to the Passion was to be founded, Mother M. Crucified felt that she herself should go to Rome to present her case to the Pope.

Paul wrote back that this is not how one proceeds.  Had he forgotten his own insistence on going to Rome in 1721? Or had he learned from that experience? Mother M. Crucified did not go to the Pope.  In fact she did not have to go, for at the death of pope Clement XIII, the new pope would be most kind to Father Paul.

Pope Clement XIV invited Paul to visit him.

Paul told him of his many trials all these years in attempting to found a convent for the Passionist Nuns. The Pope listened with fatherly concern. In a short time, Clement XIV issued a papal bull giving Paul's congregation all the rights and privileges of a religious order, even jurisdiction and papal exemption.

He arranged that the Monastery of Sts.John and Paul be given to the Passionists.  Finally, he approved the rule Paul had written for the Passionist Nuns, and decreed the opening of the convent at Corneto.  Mother Mary Crucified was allowed to transfer from the convent of St. Lucy to this new convent, together with the other women whom Paul had been directing.

Allerliefsten...

acht uzelf heel gelukkig, wanneer u allerlei beproevingen overkomen...

want gij weet dat de beproeving van uw geloof standvastigheid voortbrengt. En de standvastigheid moet zich ten volle verwerkelijken, zodat gij volmaakt en onberispelijk zijt en in niets tekort schiet.

Schiet iemand van u tekort in wijsheid, dan moet hij haar vragen aan God, en zij zal hem gegeven worden, want God geeft aan allen zonder voorbehoud en zonder verwijt.

Maar hij moet wel bidden met vertrouwen, zonder te weifelen. Wie weifelt lijkt op de golven van de zee, die door de wind heen en weer geslingerd worden. Zo iemand, innerlijk verdeeld als hij is en ongestadig in heel zijn gedrag, moet niet menen dat hij iets van de Heer zal verkrijgen.

De arme christen moet trots zijn op zijn hoge stand...

en de rijke op zijn geringheid! Want de rijke zal vergaan als een bloem in het gras. De zon komt op met haar verzengende hitte; zij doet het gras verdorren, de bloem valt af, en heel haar luister is verdwenen. Zo vergaat het ook de rijke: midden in zijn ondernemingen zal hij verwelken.

Zalig de mens die standhoudt in de beproeving.

Heeft hij de toets doorstaan, dan zal hij de zegekrans van het leven ontvangen, die God beloofd heeft aan wie Hem liefhebben.

Niemand mag zeggen, als hij bekoord wordt:

´Ik word door Gods toedoen bekoord.´

God brengt niemand in verzoeking, zo min als Hijzelf door het kwade kan worden bekoord. Wordt iemand bekoord, dan is het altijd door het trekken en lokken van zijn eigen begeerte. Daarna, als de begeerte bevrucht is, baart zij de zonde; en de zonde, eenmaal volgroeid, baart de dood.

Mijn geliefde broeders, laat u niet misleiden: elke goede gave, elk volmaakt geschenk daalt neer van boven. Van de Vader der hemellichten, bij wie geen verandering is of verduistering door omwenteling.

Uit vrije wil, heeft Hij ons het leven geschonken, door het woord der waarheid, zodat wij in zekere zin de eerstelingen onder zijn schepselen zijn.

Zijn leerlingen vroegen Hem, wat die gelijkenis wel betekende.

Hij antwoordde...

'Het zaad is het woord van God. 

Die op de weg, zijn zij die geluisterd hebben. Maar dan komt de duivel, en rooft het woord uit hun hart weg - opdat ze niet door te geloven gered worden. 

Die op de rots, zijn zij die het woord met blijdschap ontvangen wanneer zij het horen. Maar zij hebben geen wortel. Zij geloven voor een ogenblik, maar ten tijde van de beproeving, vallen zij af. 

Wat onder de distels viel, zijn zij die wel geluisterd hebben, maar gaandeweg door de zorgen, de rijkdom en de genoegens van het leven verstrikt raken, en niet tot rijpheid komen. 

Het zaad in de goede aarde zijn zij, die het woord dat zij hoorden in een goed en edel hart bewaren, en vrucht voortbrengen door hun standvastigheid.'
