From 1288 to 1299...
Chiara lived a severe test of spiritual aridity and interior struggle.
After having been pleased with the continuous gift of seeing the Lord, the sky closed for eleven years, experiencing in her soul the hardness of vices and the beauty of virtue. An experiential knowledge, not acquired by study, but from life.
In her Passion, Jesus then invites her to share her Passion of love. Through the painful experience, Chiara's passion becomes compassion. She perceives herself without God, capable of all errors, prey to all weaknesses, empty, arid, but she learns to know the hearts of men and to be in solidarity with them.
During this crisis ...
at the beginning of 1294 ...
the suffering and pilgrim Christ appeared to her, carrying a large cross, and says to her: "I have looked for a strong place to plant this cross: I have found it here, and nowhere else".
Following this experience she will repeat several times, towards the end of her lfe: "I have Jesus Christ my crucified inside my heart".
