The first inhabitants of the Camboriú region...

gathered peoples who were defeated by the Carijós Indians around the year 1000.

These, in turn, were enslaved from the 16th century by settlers from São Vicente

The final occupation of the region began with the arrival of the Azores Baltasar Pinto Corrêa and the European settlement of the region began in 1758, when Portuguese-Azoreans and some families from Porto Belo settled in the town of Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso, later called Barra.

In 1836...

Thomaz Francisco Garcia arrived at the site, with his family and some slaves.

Hence the old name Garcia, with which the village became known.

In 1848 it became a district of the city of Itajaí, called Bairro da Barra...

with the construction of the Church of Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso.

In 1884, it was dismembered from Itajaí, and became the city of Camboriú.

Attracted by the fertility of the soil and climate...

families of German descent came...

from the Itajaí Valley.

In 1930...

due to its privileged geographical location...

the occupation of the area by bathers began...

and two years later the first hotel was built...
