1000 namen

on Saturdays, in our Bhutabhrteshwarnath Mandir
we chant the Viṣṇu Sahasra Nāmam
i.e. the 1000 names of Vishnu !


1.Vishvam 2.Vishnur 3.Vashatkaro
- He who is the universe
- He who pervades everywhere
- He who is invoked for oblations [offerandes]

4.Bhuta-bhavya-bhavat prabhuh
- The Lord of past, present and future

5.Bhuta-krid 6.Bhuta-bhrid 7.Bhavo
- Creator of all creatures
- Nourisher of all creatures
- Who becomes all moving and non-moving things

8. Bhut-atma 9.Bhuta-bhavana  
- The atma of all beings
- Cause of the birth and growth of all creatures

10.Put-atma 11.Param-atma ca
- With an extremely pure essence
- Super-soul

12.Muktaanaam Parama-gatih
- Final goal, reached by liberated souls

13.Avyayah 14.Purushah 15. Sakshi
- Without destruction
- Who dwells in the city of nine gates
- The witness

16.Kshetrajno 17.'Kshara eva ca
- Knower of the field
- Indestructible

18.Yogo 19.Yoga-vidam neta
- Who is realized through yoga

20.Pradhana Purush Eshvarah  
- Lord of pradhana and purusha

- Whose form is man-lion

- With beautiful hair
- The Supreme Controller

- Who governs the entire living world

- The Almighty Lord
