The working on the mind, it demands a lot of effort.

It's not something as you read one book, and say: "Yes I'm fine, I am master of the mind now!" It takes efoort throughout the whole life...

You see, there is a beautiful example. If we want to make a pot, a clay pot, what do we need? The clay doesn't become a pot just like that. No. What do you need? You need firstly a potter. The potter needs to have the knowledge how to make a pot. He must have the resolution inside of him, the want to do it. Otherwise it's useless. The potter needs to have the skill. He needs to have the instrument. So you see, just to make a simple pot, it takes a lot! Just to make a simple clay pot!

Can you then imagine what it takes to make you into what God wants?

That's also a lot!

But do you allow yourself to be taken, and polished?

This is something else... You see, we can take spirituality superficially, as basic. Or we can spirituality and dive into it, and become what we are in essence... For example, if you take a rough diamond or stone or whatever, who can say that this stone is a diamond? No, you can't see! If you look at a rough diamond, it looks just the same as everything else in life, a rough stone you see on the road. But those who have the knowledge of that, the moment they will see it, straightaway they will know that this is a diamond. So, just having a rough diamond is one thing. Those who know how to cut it, how to polish it, they will have a different view of it. This is where the Master comes to life, where he takes you, because he perceives something deeper inside of you, something which you yourself do not perceive inside of you.

That's why I said earlier, when the Masters look, they have a different view from what the disciple sees. So the Master perceives something deeper inside, but yet, you are still rough, you still have to be polished... Do you allow yourself to be polished? So that you can shine! This is up to you, your choice. This is your spiritual sadhana. Then you start practising, and go deeper and deeper. And on that path, of course there will be many tests also. Don't think you will receive everything on a golden plate. No, the Master will test you.

There was once a disciple...

And this disciple wanted to learn the Veda. So he approached a Veda Master, a Veda Guru, and he said: "Please, teach me!" The Master said: "You know how difficult it is to learn the Veda? It will take you twelve years to learn it." But the disciple was very adamant, and he said: "Yes, I want it."

So he learned the Veda for twelve years. Finally, there was the time for tests. The Master was very busy, so he didn't find the time for a test. So he said to him: "At the back, there is a tree. Go there under the tree, chant the Veda, what you have learned for twelve years. And as many mistakes that you will make, as many leaves will fall from the tree. So collect them and bring them to me."

The disciple said: "OK, fine, I can do that."

So he went at the back, and you know, the Veda starts with a praise to Lord Ganesha! The moment he sang that, all the leaves fell down, all of them, naked tree! He was shocked. Traumatised, he run to his Master, and crying he fell at the feet of the Master. He said: "The moment I started, Ganana am..., the whole tree, all leaves fell down, not one, no áll of them!"

The Master said: "Mmm, that is a very grave mistake you made, my dear."

And the disciple replied: "But I don't know what mistake I made."

Then the Master looked at the leaves, and he perceived that he started the chanting to Lord Ganesha. This is a first mistake he made, and the biggest of all mistakes. Why? Because first, if you have the knowledge of the Veda, you have to know that the first prayer is not to any divinity, but to the one who is supreme, which is the Guru himself.

So you see, even study of the Veda...

God will test you !

But testing is not to make you weak. Actually it is to make you more stronger. That's why the tests come in the devotee's life. You don't perceive it in many ways, but that Grace of the Master is there to carry you, to polish you, to make you strong.
