LETTER TO HIS HOLINESS PIUS XII

BY FRA CLAUDIO GRANZOTTO

Most Blessed Father

Your Holiness will forgive my daring... I was moved by a great desire, that of seeing the Son of God most loved and praised. So he suggested to me the idea of carving the image of Christ in marble, taken from the Holy Shroud.

And I also modeled in the clay two portraits of the same, taken from the same shroud and from the holy shroud of Veronica. This I did with long study, great passion, and intense love.

The prefixed purpose of this realization is to demonstrate to humanity once again the great love that Christ brought for us by highlighting the images of Him detected by the footprints left in the sacred linens.

The Holy Faces depict the Redeemer in three attitudes: Justice, Love, and Mercy...

of which the first two I believe are so far the closest to the likeness of Christ.

But what is most interesting is that under the three images are placed the present written letters assigned with which to form many report cards and these are then dispensed for the whole world, so that the world may know the God of infinite Love and Mercy for those who fear Him and they return to Him, and just Judge and Punisher of those who do not fear Him and profane His Holy Laws.

This is my great desire, Your Holiness, that Jesus Christ our Lord be better known and loved more, and before the Most High every knee must bend, so that only Him may be honor and glory, now and always for ever.

So be it.

A noteworthy detail:

from the studies made on the Holy Shroud, the image of Christ emerges of an admirable perfection in all its parts; also checked with the best canons of anatomy; this harmony, balanced in all its details, cannot be found entirely in the man corrupted by vices, which is why it clearly demonstrates the authenticity of the Holy Shroud.

Deign, Your Holiness, to take all of this into consideration. I have a great faith, which assures me that, leaning on His Holiness, for the enhancement of this initiative, it will do much good to souls and will give greater glory to God.

I will then draw from the Son the portrait of Our Lady of Sorrows, his most holy Mother.

I humbly ask for forgiveness… and deign, Your Holiness, to give me your holy blessing.

Your most humble son,

Fra' Claudio Granzotto
